OMRF raised more than $600,000 at a pair of events Sunday and Monday. Proceeds will go to support disease research at the Oklahoma City nonprofit.
The “241” events—two events for one great cause—consisted of a wine festival and concert by Grammy award-winning blues artist Keb Mo at OMRF on Sunday. The fundraiser was capped off with a golf tournament Monday at Tulsa’s Southern Hills Country Club.
This was OMRF’s fifth year to hold the benefit, which was attended by more than 500 people. Funds raised will be used for research areas where the need is greatest and for promising projects that need additional funding.
“Our scientists focus on a wide range of research areas, from cancer to heart disease to autoimmune diseases like lupus and multiple sclerosis,” said OMRF President Stephen Prescott, M.D. “They also study the processes involved in aging and diseases that come with it, like Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s and ALS. The funds raised at events like 241 are vitally important, because they provide OMRF’s scientists with the essential resources to continue their work.”
Fundraising co-chairs for the 241 events were Virginia Groendyke and Don Pitman. Tom McDaniel and Natalie Shirley served as sponsorship chairs.
Lead event sponsors included The Chickasaw Nation, American Fidelity/InvesTrust, Virginia and John Groendyke, Headington Oil Company, LLC, Presbyterian Health Foundation, Ronald Rosenfeld, Allen Family Foundation, Ann Simmons Alspaugh, Cemplex Group, H.A. and Mary K.
