At its annual meeting today in West Palm Beach, Fla., the Association of Independent Research Institutes presented the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation’s Michael “Chip” Morgan with its highest honor.
Morgan, OMRF’s Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, was presented with the John Pratt Lifetime Achievement Award today at the Association’s 55th annual meeting. The Association is comprised of approximately 90 not-for-profit research institutes from throughout the U.S., including three in Oklahoma: OMRF, the Samuel Roberts Noble Foundation in Ardmore and the Laureate Institute for Brain Research in Tulsa.
“You can’t be involved with our organization for long without feeling the impact of Chip Morgan,” said Association President Cary Thomas. “Since he joined in 1983, Chip has been a champion for preserving the unique features of independent research institutes through his advocacy and communication efforts.”
In the ensuing 33 years, Morgan has served the Association in numerous capacities, including president and membership on its board of directors. For the past six years, he has chaired its government affairs committee, where he’s worked with legislators and other federal officials to ensure that scientists at OMRF and other independent research institutes are able to compete on a level playing field for federal research funding for their work.
“It’s an honor to have been a part of the Association of Independent Research Institutes for so many years,” said Morgan, “and I’m humbled to have been selected for this award.”
