The Logic Behind 241
Private support is crucial for medical research; OMRF scientists are talented and successful in competing for grants, but we need support to recruit the best and brightest, fund their research, and kick-start innovative, life-changing projects.
Why biomedical research and why OMRF?
Biomedical research has led to lifesaving breakthroughs and dramatically improved the quality of life for people everywhere. Thanks to scientists at OMRF, we have new ways to prevent, detect and more effectively manage countless illnesses. But there is much more to learn, and that knowledge is essential in continuing to develop effective ways to treat and manage a multitude of diseases that plague our society.
At OMRF, our scientists have played key roles in delivering life-changing treatments to patients. They pioneered a trio of novel medications for deadly diseases, and their work has given physicians invaluable tools to help monitor and treat patients suffering from autoimmune diseases. With some of the world’s leading immunologists and cardiovascular biologists, OMRF’s researchers are now poised to deliver a new wave of insights and therapies to help Oklahomans and people everywhere live longer, healthier lives.
What happens to money raised at 241?
All funds raised at 241 support medical research; none is used for administrative expenses. Since its inception in 2012, money raised at 241 has supported a Phase I clinical trial of a new drug to treat brain cancer, groundbreaking research to develop more effective treatments for breast cancer, efforts to better understand the causes of heart attack and stroke, and provided start-up packages for new principal scientists, aiding efforts to bring the best and the brightest in science to Oklahoma. In 2022, funds will support the recruitment and retention of OMRF scientists.
