The application deadline for OMRF’s 2012 Sir Alexander Fleming Scholar Program is Feb. 1.
Students selected as Fleming scholars will spend 8 weeks working in OMRF’s state-of-the-art research laboratories alongside senior-level scientists. In addition to laboratory training, scholars will attend lectures by and have interaction with several OMRF researchers.
“This program provides an inside look at research and has launched many careers in science and medicine,” said OMRF President Stephen Prescott. “It’s an experience like no other, especially for students at this stage in their educational journey.”
Two current OMRF scientists, Judith James, M.D., Ph.D., and Rodger McEver, M.D., started their research careers as Fleming scholars.
High school seniors and college freshmen, sophomores and juniors are eligible to apply. Applicants must be at least 16 years old and Oklahoma residents at the time of high school graduation to qualify. Students who are selected for this competitive program will be paid and, if eligible, will receive free housing.
