Eligibility
To be eligible for the OMRF-OKC VA Langston Biomedical Research Scholars Program, applicants must be:
- Currently enrolled Langston University students, preferably pursuing degrees in biology, chemistry, mathematics or related fields.
- At least 16 years of age.
- A U.S. citizen or permanent resident or have unrestricted employment authorization in accordance with applicable Immigration and Naturalization Service regulations (example: J-2 – with Employment Authorization Document). Applicants with an H-4 visa are not eligible.
- Willing and able to commit to the program’s entire eight-week time frame (June 3 – July 26, 2024).
Applications
Applicants must submit all of the following:
- Application Form: Access and complete the application via the online applicant tracking system.
- Transcripts: Send your transcript/s directly to the Selection Committee, via e-mail recruiting@omrf.org or by mail: OMRF-OKC VA Langston Biomedical Research Scholars Program, 825 NE 13th Street, Oklahoma City, OK 73104. College students must submit both high school and college transcripts.
- Essay: An essay not to exceed 500 words describing why you wish to participate in the program. The joint selection committee is especially interested in how well you formulate your ideas and express them. You may explain how an interest, experience or project led to your better understanding of a scientific principle or how you displayed critical analysis and creativity in solving a problem. Attach your essay as an additional document in the application.
- Resume: Attach your resume via the online application system. The resume should be a brief description of your education, employment, volunteer and/or extracurricular activities thus far.
- Recommendation Letters: At least one and no more than three letters of recommendation are required. References must send a recommendation letter on their organization’s letterhead. Letters may be submitted to recruiting@omrf.org or via mail to Attn: HR OMRF-OKC VA Langston Biomedical Research Scholars, 825 NE 13th Street, Oklahoma City, OK 73104
- It is preferred that the entire application packet be submitted electronically; however, if that is not possible, items other than the application form may be submitted via any of the following avenues:

- Extra materials, such as additional recommendation letters, will not be considered.
- Incomplete application packets or materials received after the deadline will not be considered.
- The application process is considered complete once the applicant receives an electronic confirmation number and submission of at least one reference letter.

Deadline
All completed application packets must be submitted and/or postmarked by Feb. 9, 2024, at 11:59 p.m.
Interviews
The Selection Committee will select finalists to interview. Interviews will be held early to mid-March. All applicants will be notified of their statuses by late March.
Program Dates
The program starts with eight weeks in the summer. The upcoming summer program runs from June 3 through July 26, 2024. Scholars must commit to the entire timeframe. Following the successful completion of the initial summer program, scholars may explore options to continue their work for multiple academic years enjoying longer-term mentorship and employment opportunities.
Compensation
Scholars who complete the full summer program will be paid $5,000. Scholars who work beyond the summer program will be paid at least $15 per hour.
