This past September, our postdoctoral association hosted a neuroscientist from the National Institutes of Health. I picked her up at the airport. We’d made a reservation for her at a hotel, but when we got there, the guy at the front desk said, “I’m sorry, we’re fully booked.” It was 11:00 at night, and I couldn’t find anything else. So, I said, “If you don’t mind coming to stay at my house, I have an extra room.” I gave her my daughter’s room. Luckily, it wasn’t a complete mess. But it was definitely not your typical hotel room. Kiara had painted the walls neon green.
