Program Overview

* Due to the cancellation of the 2020 Summer Program because of the Covid-19 pandemic, last year’s selected applicants will be the 2021 Fleming Scholars. This means the Fleming application will not be posted online and we will not be interviewing candidates for the 2021 summer program.*

DISCOVER how the Fleming Scholar Program can KICK START YOUR CAREER. Fleming Scholars are paid to work in state-of-the-art biomedical research laboratories on individual projects and are supervised by senior members of OMRF’s scientific staff. GET INNOVATIVE for 8 weeks in the summer (typically June through July) by working on REAL LIFE SCIENTIFIC MYSTERIES. The work done during this program makes a LIFELONG IMPACT – not only in shaping a Fleming Scholar’s future but also in the contribution made toward fighting human diseases. Your work lives long after the summer ends. CHANGE A LIFE – yours and potentially of people combating various ailments.

Throughout the summer Scholars also attend weekly seminars largely lead by scientific staff covering various topics and participate in several social activities. On the final day of the program, scholars give formal scientific seminars outlining the findings of their projects followed by a luncheon with lab and family members. Each scholar also writes a scientific paper summarizing their summer project.
