The Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation’s Board of Directors has elected two new Board members, Martin Bautista, M.D., of Guymon and Karin Holsted of Edmond.
Bautista is a gastroenterologist who has lived and practiced in Guymon for 28 years. He recently served as a district chair for OMRF’s “77 for 77” statewide awareness campaign.
Holsted is an occupational therapist who has worked extensively with special needs children. For the past several years, she has served on the organizing committee for OMRF’s “241” fundraising events.
OMRF President Andrew Weyrich, Ph.D., considers both to be “phenomenal additions” to the Board.
“Dr. Bautista has a passion for biomedicine, and he understands the need for research to inform clinical care,” said Weyrich. “So, he really aligns with our mission.”
Additionally, Weyrich said that Bautista will strengthen the foundation’s connection to northwest Oklahoma.
Holsted has a keen interest in improving health care outcomes through continued medical research. “She is an avid learner,” said Weyrich. “She’s well connected and a phenomenal person.”
Holsted said she’s excited to join the Board because “OMRF research delves into many health care issues that are important to me.”
Bautista looks forward to spreading the word about OMRF beyond the foundation’s Oklahoma City home.
“I want to help make the Panhandle aware that such a magnificent organization exists, and that it was built upon the grassroots efforts of Oklahomans,” he said. “It deserves our attention and our support.”
