For 11 consecutive years, the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation has received the highest possible rating from Charity Navigator, the nation’s largest charity evaluator. The foundation was complimented for “sound fiscal management and commitment to accountability and transparency.”
OMRF is one of only 11 organizations in Oklahoma to earn a 4-star rating on CharityNavigator.org. Other Oklahoma charities to garner the distinction are The Voice of the Martyrs in Bartlesville, Blessings International in Broken Arrow, Little Light House and Tulsa Day Center for the Homeless in Tulsa, and Oklahoma City charities City Rescue Mission, Feed the Children, Infant Crisis Services, Reaching Souls International and United Way of Central Oklahoma.
“Less than 1% of the charities we rate have received at least 11 consecutive 4-star evaluations, indicating that Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation outperforms most other charities in America,” said Ken Berger, President and CEO of Charity Navigator. “This ‘exceptional’ designation from Charity Navigator differentiates Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation from its peers and demonstrates to the public it is worthy of their trust.”
Using publicly available financial information, Charity Navigator promotes intelligent giving by providing report cards for U.S. and international charities. The nonprofit organization measures charities on financial health and accountability and transparency in order to predict how efficiently a charity will use support. It then assigns each charity a score from zero to four stars.
“This designation is a badge of honor, because we take our fiscal responsibility to donors seriously,” said OMRF President Stephen Prescott, M.D. “The economy is tight, which makes each dollar mean more. So when Oklahomans choose to support OMRF, they need to know we’ll use their gifts wisely by funding life-saving research on human disease.”
“As the nonprofit sector continues to grow at an unprecedented pace, savvy donors are demanding more accountability, transparency and quantifiable results from the charities they choose to support with their hard-earned dollars,” said Charity Navigator’s Berger. “Our goal in all of this is to provide donors with essential information needed to give them greater confidence in the charitable choices they make.”
