As OMRF’s vice president of research, Dr. Courtney Griffin serves as the foundation’s chief scientific officer. She joined OMRF in 2008 and holds the Scott Zarrow Chair in Biomedical Research.
In her lab in OMRF’s Cardiovascular Biology Research Program, Dr. Griffin studies the genes that impact blood and lymphatic vessels. Her team focuses on ways to halt disease progression by restricting excess vessel development while protecting healthy vessels.
Dr. Griffin earned her bachelor’s degree from Harvard University and doctorate in biomedical sciences from the University of California, San Francisco. Before joining OMRF, she completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Dr. Griffin is an adjunct professor of cell biology at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center and founder and chair of OMRF’s Postdoc Training Committee.
She served as scientific director of the Oklahoma Center for Adult Stem Cell Research from 2019 to 2023 and president of the North American Vascular Biology Organization from 2021 to 2022. Dr. Griffin is also a standing member of the team that evaluates cardiovascular research grant applications and makes funding recommendations to the National Institutes of Health.
