OMRF to host estate planning seminars

October 14, 2009

OMRF will offer estate planning seminars for attorneys, CPAs and financial planners on Nov. 2 in Oklahoma City and Nov. 3 in Tulsa.

Featured speaker at both events will be nationally recognized lawyer, lecturer, author and professor Conrad Teitell.

The seminar curriculum has been submitted for approval for 4 hours of CPE credit (0 hours ethics) by the Oklahoma Bar Association Mandatory Continuing Legal Education Commission and the Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards. CPAs who attend will receive a certificate to document their attendance.

The Nov. 2 seminar, slated for the Clarion Meridian Hotel and Convention Center, 737 S. Meridian Ave., will also feature Kevin B. Ratliff, member at Hartzog Conger Cason & Neville.

Ted M. Riseling, a partner with Riseling and Rhodes, will speak at the Tulsa seminar on Nov. 3 at the Renaissance Tulsa Hotel and Convention Center, 6808 South 107th East Ave.

Teitell, a principal in the firm Cummings and Lockwood, will focus on charitable tax planning strategies in difficult economic times. Known for translating complex laws into plain English, Teitell was an invited witness before the U.S. Senate Finance Committee on federal estate tax revision. He received the American Law Institute/American Bar Association’s Harrison Tweed Award for Special Merit in Continuing Legal Education.

Ratliff will discuss recent tax developments at the Oklahoma City seminar. He is listed as a “Rising Star” by Oklahoma Superlawyers in the areas of taxation, estate planning and business. Ratliff is a member of Oklahoma City Estate Planning Council, the Oklahoma City Tax Lawyers Group, the Oklahoma County Bar Association and the Oklahoma Bar Association (Tax and Estate Planning Sections).

In Tulsa, Riseling will cover updates to Oklahoma and federal estate planning. He is an elected Fellow of the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel and on the adjunct faculty of the University of Tulsa College of Law, where he has taught estate planning and income taxation since 1975.

The cost for the seminar is $100, and registration is required. To register for either location, call (405) 271-8646 or visit www.omrf.org/estate. Registration will remain open through Oct. 23.

The seminar is co-sponsored by Heritage Trust Company.
