Anglers from around the state are invited to Foss Lake this weekend to reel in bass to raise money in support of cancer research. The 22nd Frank Wohl Memorial Bass Tournament, which benefits the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation, will offer cash prizes totaling more than $3,000.
The two-day event kicks off with a banquet and auction at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 15. The tournament begins Sunday, Sept. 16, at 6:30 a.m. and ends with a 3:00 p.m. weigh-in.
Wohl, a fishing enthusiast and businessman from Clinton, died of cancer at age 61 in 1985. The tournament was organized the following year to pay tribute to Wohl and turn his favorite pastime into a way to support research in the disease that claimed his life.
The tournament has raised $38,000 for OMRF since 1986.
“Cancer touches everybody’s life in some way or another,” said organizer Lance Brooks. “We are happy to be able to continue this tradition each year. Frank would have liked that.”
Tournament entries are still being accepted. For more information, call 1-877-243-2485.
