My Research
Sjögren’s Disease is a chronic autoimmune disorder that causes persistent dryness by inflaming the saliva- and tear-producing glands. For reasons that are unclear, the disease predominantly affects women and worsens with increasing age. My research focuses on how aging and biological sex shape immune cell function to drive glandular pathology in Sjögren’s disease. Using genetically diverse mouse models that mirror key aspects of the human disease, we investigate the immune mechanisms that drive or restrain salivary gland inflammation. My work integrates cellular and molecular approaches to define how immune cells contribute to disease progression. A central theme of my research is identifying immunoregulatory pathways that protect males from severe glandular pathology. Our goal is to identify sex-specific pathways that protect glands from damage and to guide the development of therapies that improve long-term outcomes.
