My lab studies the molecular causes of muscle loss. Protein turnover is important in maintaining skeletal muscle health and contributes to increasing and decreasing muscle size. Protein degradation is central to the process of muscle atrophy, and the proteasome system facilitates the targeting of proteins for breakdown. I study how protein quality control by degradation is regulated and contributes to skeletal muscle mass and function.
