John Saxon III, M.D., is a Muskogee physician and has been an OMRF board member since 2000. He established the John H. Saxon Service Academy Summer Research Program to honor his father, a West Point graduate who taught for five years at the U.S. Air Force Academy and was a career Air Force pilot before passing away in 1996. This program provides military academy students with an opportunity to work side-by-side with OMRF’s senior scientists. Students work for three to four weeks in in state-of-the-art biomedical research laboratories on individual projects and are mentored by scientific staff. At the end of the program, the students give a formal seminar over their findings and write a scientific paper. Since 2010, over 30 military students have been a part of the program. OMRF partners with the individual academies to select students through the schools summer program.
