Dr. Stephen M. Prescott, President

PrescottS2008 Dr. Stephen M. Prescott, President An internationally recognized leader in the studies of the basic mechanisms of human disease, Dr. Stephen Prescott comes to OMRF from the University of Utah, where he was a professor of internal medicine and held the H.A. & Edna Benning Presidential Endowed Chair, founded the Eccles Program in Human and Molecular Biology and Genetics, and served as the executive director of the Huntsman Cancer Institute. At OMRF, Prescott has initiated the largest campus expansion in the foundation’s 64-year-history. Under his leadership, OMRF has begun construction of a research tower that, when completed, will nearly double the size of OMRF’s laboratory facilities and will add 150 scientists, technicians and support personnel to OMRF’s current staff.

A native of Texas, Dr. Prescott received his undergraduate degree at Texas A&M University and his M.D. degree from the Baylor College of Medicine. He has authored more than 250 scientific articles, served as a senior editor of the influential Journal of Biological Chemistry and is on the board of the Journal of Clinical Investigation. He has also served on medical and scientific advisory committees for the National Institutes of Health, the American Heart Association, and the American Cancer Society. He is a founder of LineaGen, a biotechnology company. Among the awards he has received are the Utah Governor’s Medal for Science and Technology, the Sol Sherry Prize from the American Heart Association, and the Houssay-Braun-Menendez Medal from the Argentine Association for the Advancement of Science.

Mike D. “Chip” Morgan, Executive Vice President & COO

MorganC2008 Mike D. “Chip” Morgan, Executive Vice President & COO

Chip Morgan has held numerous positions in his 41 years with OMRF and currently serves as Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer. In his current capacity, he is responsible for managing the internal business operations of this internationally recognized nonprofit biomedical research institute. During his tenure, OMRF has grown to a contiguous campus of over 500,000 square feet and total assets of $365 million. Morgan received his BBA degree from the University of Oklahoma and holds an MBA from Oklahoma City University. He is Past President of the Board of the Association of Independent Research Institutes and previously served as Chairman of the Board of the Oklahoma Health Services Federal Credit Union (now known as the FOCUS Federal Credit Union) and the Oklahoma Chapter of the American Heart Association.

Adam Cohen, Senior Vice President & General Counsel

CohenA2008 Adam Cohen, Senior Vice President & General CounselAdam Cohen holds a BA in English from the University of Pennsylvania and a JD from the Duke University School of Law. Prior to joining OMRF in 2002, he worked as a litigator for the law firm of Hughes Hubbard & Reed in New York, a law clerk to the Honorable Robert H. Henry of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 10th Circuit and a staff attorney for the University of Oklahoma. As a freelance writer, his articles have appeared in more than a dozen publications, including The American Lawyer, Men’s Journal, the Los Angeles Times, and The New York Times. He continues to serve as a contributing editor for Runner’s World, and with OMRF President Stephen Prescott, he writes “Body Work,” a monthly health and fitness column for The Oklahoman. Since he came to OMRF, the foundation’s Department of Public Affairs has earned more than 20 top prizes in journalism and public relations competitions, and Cohen has been recognized as an “Achiever under 40” by The Journal Record newspaper and as a member of the OKC Business “Forty under 40.” A graduate of Leadership Oklahoma Class XXII and legal counsel to the Oklahoma City Memorial Marathon, he has also served on the board of the Oklahoma Society of Professional Journalists and currently serves as a director of the Norman Public School Foundation and the Norman Community Foundation.

Lisa Day, Vice President of Business & Government Affairs

DayL2008 Lisa Day, Vice President of Business & Government AffairsLisa Day earned her bachelor’s degree in political science and municipal management from the University of Central Oklahoma. At the Oklahoma State Department of Health, Day served as a maternal and training coordinator for the Child Abuse Training and Coordination Council, director of program monitoring and, finally, legislative liaison. Day joined OMRF in 2001 and has spearheaded the foundation’s legislative initiatives since then. In recognition of her work with both state and federal government officials, Day received OMRF’s 2005 President’s Service Award.

Tim Hassen, Vice President & Chief Financial Officer

HassenT2008 Tim Hassen, Vice President & Chief Financial OfficerTim Hassen is a CPA with more than 10 years of experience in financial management and the non-profit accounting sector. After graduating from Oklahoma City Community College, he earned a BS in accounting from the University of Central Oklahoma and an MBA with an emphasis in finance from Oklahoma City University. Hassen worked as an auditor for the international accounting firm of Deloitte & Touche, where he served clients in the non-profit, governmental and SEC sectors. He began his career at OMRF in 1998, when he was hired as an internal auditor. Hassen is a member of the Oklahoma City Community College Alumni Hall of Fame, and in 2006 OKC Business named him one of its “Forty under 40.”

Larry Kennedy, Vice President of Technology Transfer

KennedyL2008 Larry Kennedy, Vice President of Technology TransferLarry Kennedy was trained as a microbiologist, receiving his BS and MS from Kansas State College, Emporia and an MBA from Rockhurst University in Kansas City, MO. He initially worked for Midwest Research Institute, Kansas City, MO, where early research efforts concentrated on the development of early biotechnology concepts in the production of viral insect pathogens and food systems for sustained space flights. He later joined Richardson-Merrill, Inc.’s, Jen-Sal Division, developing and manufacturing vaccines. After acquiring an MBA he transitioned to management, and progressed up the ranks. Some of the positions that Kennedy has held over the past 30 years include, Vice President of Manufacturing and Operations, Vice President of Business Development, Director Business Development, Acquisitions and Licensing and Director of Human Resources. During his career Kennedy worked for a number of different pharmaceutical, chemical and animal health companies, including Richardson-Merrill, Inc. (Vicks), Burroughs Wellcome, Co. (Wellcome Foundation), Coopers Animal Health (joint venture Zeneca/ Wellcome), International Minerals and Chemicals (IMCERA), Mallinckrodt, Inc. and Schering Plough. In the ten years prior to joining OMRF, Kennedy’s efforts were focused on business development, strategic planning, acquisitions/ divestitures and licensing. Kennedy brought these skills and experiences to the OMRF Technology Transfer Office in October of 1998.

Dr. Paul Kincade, Vice President of Research

kincade vp Dr. Paul Kincade, Vice President of ResearchDr. Kincade received his undergraduate and master’s degrees from Mississippi State University and his Ph.D. from the University of Alabama in Birmingham. He spent eight years on the faculty of Sloan-Kettering Institute in New York before coming to OMRF in 1982. In the lab, Kincade studies the relationships between stem cells and the human immune system that can lead to the development of lymphomas, leukemias or myelomas. He has written more than 180 peer-reviewed papers, as well as 92 chapters and reviews, placing him on the Institute for Scientific Information’s List of Highly Cited Authors.  

He was named head of OMRF’s Immunobiology & Cancer Research Program in 1985 and holds the William H. and Rita Bell Chair in Biomedical Research. His honors include a Senior Investigatorship from the Arthritis Foundation, Research Career Development and MERIT Awards from the National Institutes of Health, and a Distinguished Service Award from the American Association of Immunologists. Dr. Kincade served on the Board of Scientific Councilors for the National Institute for Child Health and Human Development and is now a member of the Scientific Advisory Board of the RIKEN Center for Allergy and Immunology. Kincade has held presidencies in both the American Association of Immunologists and the Federation of American Societies for Experimental Biology. In 2010, Dr. Kincade was named founding Scientific Director for the Oklahoma Center for Adult Stem Cell Research.

Janis Perrault, Vice President of Human Resources

PerraultJ2008 Janis Perrault, Vice President of Human ResourcesJanis Perrault joined OMRF in 2007 as Vice President of Human Resources. A certified Senior Professional of Human Resources, she holds a BBA from the University of Central Oklahoma, with an emphasis in human resources management. Perrault served as vice president of human resources and administration for Diamondback Energy Services before coming to OMRF. Prior to her work at Diamondback, Perrault had a 22-year career with Kerr-McGee Corporation. At Kerr-McGee, she held a variety of positions with the parent company and the chemical subsidiary, with her final position being director of human resources for the shared services company. In 2001, she was honored with the chairman’s employee of the year award for the chemical subsidiary. She is a member of the Senior Executive Human Resource Forum, the Oklahoma City HR Society, the Society for Human Resource Management, the College and University Professionals Association and the University of Central Oklahoma Alumni Association and is active in the HR Forum of the Association of Independent Research Institutes.

Penny Voss, Vice President of Development

VossP2008 Penny Voss, Vice President of DevelopmentA graduate of the University of Central Oklahoma, Voss has more than 25 years experience in the development field. She came to OMRF from the Dean McGee Eye Institute, where she was vice president for development. She has also served as director of donor services for the Oklahoma City Community Foundation, executive director of the St. Anthony Hospital Foundation, director of development for the Oklahoma City Philharmonic, director of corporate and foundation relations for the University of Oklahoma and director of development for the Oklahoma Arts Institute. Designated as a Certified Fund Raising Executive by CFRE International, Voss is a former president and current member of the Association of Fund Raising Professionals. She was awarded the Association’s Mike McDonald Outstanding Professional Fund Raiser Award for 2006 and was also The Journal Record’s Woman of the Year Nominee in 2007, 2009, and 2010.  She currently serves on the board of the Norman Public Schools Foundation and is a member of Rotary Club #29, the Oklahoma Women’s Forum, and Leadership Oklahoma Class XXV. She is also an active alumni of Leadership Oklahoma City.
